Wilderness guided day hike Kahurangi National Park

Day Walk from Cobb Valley to Backcountry Hut and Lakes

Start in Nelson, Motueka or Upper Takaka

Our Bus service  will pick you up at your accommodation in Nelson or close by  at around 7.30am.

Enjoy the early morning drive along the stunning coastline of Tasman Bay.

People staying in Motueka will join the bus trip at 8.30am.

We will pass apple and kiwi orchards, hop crops, who are exclusive to our area. We will then climb up the Takaka hill with

spectacular views across the Tasman Bay to Nelson and then across the plains to Takaka. Takaka hill is famous for its dark marble and caving systems.

You will experience a totally different world once we drive over this hill.

Pick up from Upper Takaka is at 9.30am.

We will turn into Cobb Valley, which is part of the Kahurangi National Park. This region is one of the most interesting in the country for trampers and naturalists. Enjoy the impressive mountain and bush scenery, remarkable botany and geology. We will drive another 30 minutes till we reach Cobb Valley Dam, which is the start of our track.

We will walk uphill to Sylvester Hut, a typical back country Hut just above the tree line. A good place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea boiled in the typical New Zealand tramping "billy" to go with some morning tea treats.

Walking another half an  hour brings us to some lakes, where the brave ones of us can have a swim. This is a proper alpine area in our back country and we are sure you will enjoy this special place.

On our walk back to the bus we have time to take the views in.

We will be back in Upper Takaka at around 3.30pm, in Motueka at about 4.30pm and in Nelson at about 5.30pm.
